Seniors present their Capstone research projects.

On April 23, seniors in the School of Business presented their Capstone research projects to faculty, friends and fellow students. Professors Indra Guertler, Špela Trefalt, Susan Sampson, and Charlene Spiceland guided eight student teams throughout the process and, together with other faculty colleagues and staff members, enjoyed the presentations.

Each project focused on its members' major: finance, business management, marketing, and accounting, and often showcased the inevitable overlaps of these disciplines.

The finance projects focused on forecasting future cash flow, leadership and strategy for companies considering business acquisitions.

The business management majors ran sensors manufacturers in a business simulation, which included research and development, marketing, production, finance, total quality management, and HR.

Marketing students created advanced marketing plans, including traditional and digital marketing, completing SWOT analyses to determine the best course of action — and potential threats — for their small businesses.

For accounting students’ first participation in Capstone projects, they presented a competitive effort modeled after Shark Tank, in which each student presented an investment opportunity (informed by journal entries and expense reports) and also chose the most viable project for investment.
