According to Massachusetts requirements for teaching certification, after five years of teaching with an initial license, teachers must fulfill educational requirements to advance their license to the professional level. We offer the following Professional Licensure tracks for teachers in Massachusetts who hold an initial license in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Moderate Disabilities, English, History, or Political Science/Philosophy:

  • 32-credit Master of Science in Education for teachers who do not hold a master's degree
  • 36-40-credit Master of Science in Education with Moderate Disabilities Add-On License for teachers who do not hold a master’s degree
  • 12-credit Certificate for teachers who hold a master’s degree

While many students complete the program on a part-time basis, taking two courses per semester while working, it is possible to study full-time. Advanced pedagogy courses meet on an evening or weekend schedule, while advanced content courses generally meet during afternoons or evenings.
