Following in Her Footsteps: Jacqui Gerbracht '94 Sends Daughter to Simmons

Jacqui and Grace Gerbracht

I’m very happy with the education I received from Simmons and I’m proud Grace chose to follow a similar path.

What's your current job?

Jacqui Gerbracht

I'm a Registered Nurse at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford. I'm a member of the transport team which transfers pre-mature infants to and from hospitals throughout Northern California and Nevada.

How did Simmons prepare you for your life and career?

First, and most importantly, I received the training necessary to pass the boards and get a job. The nursing program was very good which gave me a great foundation. For example, my preceptor Karen Agostini, who is now a clinical instructor at Simmons, provided encouragement and guidance which helped me throughout my senior year.

How does it feel to have your daughter follow in your footsteps?

Great. I’m so excited for her to experience the Simmons community and that she’s going to forge new relationships with students and faculty. Also, the Simmons nursing program is one of the best programs in the country, which will prepare her to become a great nurse through the world-renowned hospitals she’ll be working at during her clinicals.

What are you most excited for Grace to experience at Simmons?

The training she’ll receive from the nursing program. The individual attention from the professors and their positivity, along with the support and encouragement from her peers. Also, Boston is a great city and she’ll enjoy so many fun adventures experiencing everything there is to do.

I’m very happy with the education I received from Simmons and I’m proud Grace chose to follow a similar path.

What does leadership mean to you?

Within a hospital environment, most of our care is provided by working together as a team. What leadership means to me is having the experience and conviction to provide my input when necessary. My first exposure to this came from Simmons faculty which continually stressed the importance of advocating for patients.

What advice would you give to other parents sending their children to Simmons?

Now that you’ve chosen Simmons you can sit back and relax because you’re sending your child to a great college.
