As the Interim Director and double alum of the Simmons School of Library and Information Science (SLIS), I am happy to welcome you to SLIS and to the exciting possibilities it offers.

A nationally ranked program, SLIS offers an array of learning opportunities across various modalities and formats, providing students the ability to shape their program to meet their needs and interests. For the greatest flexibility, you are welcome to Design Your Own Master of Science in Library and Information Science(MSLIS). You can also choose to focus your course of study on Archives Management, School Library Teacher, Cultural Heritage, or a dual degree in History/Archives Management or in Children’s Literature and Library Services to Children. In our PhD program, students can delve more deeply into library and information science theory and practice while developing their research agendas and engaging in teaching opportunities.

I first came to SLIS as a master’s student and fell in love almost immediately. I was so impressed by the expertise of the faculty and the engagement of the students that when I decided to return to study for my PhD, I knew that I wanted to do it at SLIS.  Since joining the full-time faculty, I have come to understand its international reputation in unique programming, its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and the values of both the field of library and information science and of social justice, and its focus on students.  I am proud of my many connections to SLIS, and I am so happy to welcome you to our community.

Sincerely,

Laura Saunders
