Recent Changes to Title IX

In November of 2018, the U.S. Department of Education proposed changes to the regulations implementing Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. A number of organizations and institutions provided comments regarding the proposed changes. Rather than submitting its own comments, Simmons, along with 54 other institutions, endorsed a set of comprehensive comments that were submitted by the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts (AICUM). A copy of these comments is included below. The AICUM comments reflect the expertise and perspectives of a broad and diverse group of AICUM institutions that are guided by principles of equal access, fairness and care for all members of their respective campus communities.

In May of 2020, the final regulations were issued. The regulations became effective on August 14, 2020. Simmons' Sexual Harassment Policy and the procedures set forth in the Policy reflect the requirements of the new regulations.

We welcome anyone with questions about the Policy to contact the Title IX Coordinator at (617) 521-2768.
