    Dr. Sandra Hirsh, Associate Dean for Academics in the College of Information, Data and Society at San José State University, visited Simmons as a 2024 recipient of the Allen Smith Visiting Scholars Fellowship. She kicked off her week as visiting scholar by delivering an opening keynote presentation, “Future-Ready Libraries: A Glimpse Into 2035.”

    Jessie Hansen ’26DSW recently started the program The Kindest Kid in America, which awards young students who are exemplars of kindness. Hansen is a representative of Think Kindness, an organization that aims to promote acts of kindness in school and communities.

    In honor of LGBTQIA+ History Month, we welcome the LGBTQIA+ community at Simmons to gather in their new lounge, located in the Jennifer Eckert Center for Leadership & Engagement.

  6. The Simmons community celebrates Gwen Ifill's life and legacy. Included in the group are Simmons President Lynn Perry Wooten, Communications Professor Bob White, Ifill School Dean Ammina Kothari, Social Work Dean Michael LaSala, and SLIS Dean Sanda Erdelez.

    The Gwen Ifill School of Media, Humanities, and Social Sciences and the Simmons Alumnae/i Association honored the legacy of trailblazing news anchor and journalist Gwen Ifill ’77 ’93HD. Ifill’s brother Dr. Roberto Ifill and her college classmates joined Simmons faculty, current Simmons students, Ifill School Dean Ammina Kothari, and President Lynn Perry Wooten to commemorate this extraordinary alumna.

    Simmons University welcomes Mansfield Holmes, Associate Professor of Practice in Finance. Prior to joining the Simmons School of Management, he taught for ten years in the finance department at Suffolk University, where he worked with university leadership to establish and expand the business school’s wealth management program.

    ALL IN Awards Day honored Simmons for excellence in nonpartisan student voter engagement and campus turnout in the 2022 Midterm Elections. Specifically, Simmons received the award for 2022 Boston Votes Highest Voting Rate: Four-Year Institution. Members of the Simmons community received in-person recognition at the Boston and Massachusetts Campus Voting Summit, held at Harvard University.

    On September 26, Elissa Gershowitz ’00MA, Editor-in-Chief of The Horn Book, received a Mentor Award at the Carle Honors ceremony in New York City. Bestowed by The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art these annual awards celebrate individuals and organizations who have elevated the art of children’s picture-book making.
