Simmons University invites students, faculty, staff, and alumnae/i to join us for a Community Read conversation and book signing with Dr. Uché Blackstock, physician and author of the best-selling memoir, Legacy: A Black Physician Reckons with Racism in Medicine.

  • Author Keynote and Q&A: 2:00 - 3:00 PM (In-Person and Zoom)
  • Book Signing: 3:00 - 4:00 PM (In-Person)

This event is free and open to Simmons University students, alumnae/i, faculty, and staff. Please note that registration is required for in-person attendance. Seating limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

About the Author

Author Dr. Uché Blackstock

Dr. Uché Blackstock is a physician and thought leader on bias and racism in healthcare. She appears on air regularly as an MSNBC medical contributor and is the founder and CEO of Advancing Health Equity, as well as a former associate professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the former faculty director for recruitment, retention, and inclusion in the Office of Diversity Affairs at NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Blackstock received both her undergraduate and medical degrees from Harvard University, making her and her twin sister, Oni, the first Black mother-daughter legacies from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Blackstock currently lives in her hometown of Brooklyn, New York, with her two small children.

The Fall Community Read brings together first-year undergraduates and members of the Simmons community for dynamic discussions, debates, and reflections on contemporary themes or issues.
