Inside the Simmons Archives

What connects a 2000 BC clay tablet, a suffragette's personal papers, and a 9th-century palm leaf manuscript?

They're all part of our Archives' extraordinary new collection - and we invite you to discover them from wherever you are. Join us for a virtual presentation unveiling recent acquisitions that span four millennia of human history and tell stories that resonate powerfully today.

We'll guide you through remarkable new additions, including:

  • The Objects We Learned From – Simmons holds objects that stretch back thousands of years. Among them are Sumerian clay tablets, a Kampar palm-leaf book, and pages from the Nuremberg Chronicle printed in 1493.
  • Dressing the Professional Woman – The University Archives’ historic clothing collection is another demonstration of Simmons’ successful mission to prepare women for an independent livelihood.
  • Students Building Their Own World – Numerous materials in the University Archives demonstrate the lived experience of being a Simmons student. Perhaps the best example of this lies within our scrapbook collection.
  • What's New In The Archives – Three new additions to the Archives from a suffragette, the Boston Area Women in Libraries collection, and the Massachusetts Black Librarians Network.

Each artifact tells a story of education, activism, artistry, and the human desire to record and preserve knowledge across time. Whether you studied here decades ago or just recently graduated, these acquisitions connect us to the broader human story - and to each other.

We hope you'll join us for this unique opportunity to explore our shared heritage.

Registration will close on Sunday, March 8. If you have any questions about this event, please contact us at [email protected]. We hope to see you there!
