Handshake

Connecting Job Seekers and Employers

Handshake is the main Simmons online employment site. It offers access to full- and part-time jobs, internships, volunteer and seasonal employment, and fellowship opportunities from organizations in Greater Boston, New England, and across the country.

In addition to searching for jobs, Handshake can be used to view upcoming on-campus career events and fairs, post your resume and cover letters, book appointments with career coaches online, “favorite” employers, and much more.

Questions?

Any other questions regarding Handshake should be directed to the Career Education Center at careers@simmons.edu or 617-521-2488.

All undergraduate and graduate students have a pre-loaded profile to access Handshake’s searchable database of openings posted for the Simmons community.

To log into Handshake, you will need to go to the Handshake login page, and click on “Simmons Students Click Here.” You will be directed to a login page where you can enter your standard Simmons credentials (the same user name/password used to access your Simmons Gmail account).

Once logged in for the first time, you will be prompted to complete your profile by answering several questions that will help Handshake customize the opportunities and information that will appear on your home page dashboard. You can skip these questions, but we recommend completing your profile as much as possible to help customize and thereby optimize your Handshake experience.

PLEASE NOTE: Do not attempt to create a new Handshake profile, or log in using any e-mail address other than your Simmons e-mail alias in the “firstname.lastname@simmons.edu” format. Doing so will create a duplicate profile that will be rejected and deleted by system administrators.

Once you have logged in and completed your personal profile on Handshake, you will have access to the following:

  • Thousands of active jobs, internships and fellowships posted to the site for Simmons students and alums. The searchable database includes openings from local, national, and international employers.
  • Career coaches’ calendars with available slots for booking appointment times (NOTE: this feature is not currently available to students in the Nursing@Simmons, SocialWork@Simmons, and Online@Simmons programs)
  • "Favorite” employers that allow you to receive automated e-mails with recently posted jobs and other notifications
  • A documents area where you can post your resumes, cover letters, and writing samples
  • Announcements and information on forthcoming career events, such as career fairs, and workshops, and the ability to RSVP for each event

Recent alumnae/i (those who have graduated in 2018 or later): You have a pre-loaded profile similar to current students, but should contact careers@simmons.edu to have your e-mail addresses/user names updated to a non-Simmons e-mail address so you can access your profile. Any information/updates to the Handshake profile made prior to graduating will be retained, and any alumnae/i that did not access their profiles while they were students will still be able to access their Handshake profiles for the first time as alums.

Please note that those logging in for the first time will be prompted to complete their profile by answering several questions that will help Handshake customize the opportunities and information that will appear on their home page dashboard. You can skip these questions, but we recommend completing your profile as much as possible to help customize and thereby optimize your Handshake experience.

Alumnae/i who graduated prior to 2018: You can create a free Handshake account with your non-Simmons e-mail address:

  • Go to the Handshake login page and click on “Sign Up for an Account”
  • Select “Student/Alumni"
  • Enter the requested information (including a non-Simmons email address) and click “Create Account”
  • You will be instructed to confirm your email. Go to your email inbox, select the email from Handshake, and click "Confirm Email"
  • You will be redirected back to Handshake, where you will need to log in using your email and password.
  • Complete the profile set-up information, including where you would like to work, fields of interest, skills, organizations, and work/volunteer experience. Click "Launch"
  • Your profile will be created, and you will be notified that your access is pending. Once a system administrator verifies your alumnae/i status and approves your profile, you will be notified via e-mail and gain full access to Handshake

Once you have logged in and completed your personal profile on Handshake, you will have access to the following:

  • Hundreds of active jobs posted to the site for Simmons students and alums. The searchable database includes openings from local, national, and international employers.
  • Career coaches’ calendars with available slots for booking appointment times  (NOTE: this feature is not currently available to students in the Nursing@Simmons, SocialWork@Simmons, and Online@Simmons programs)
  •  “Favorite” employers that allow you to receive automated e-mails with recently posted jobs and other notifications

Handshake is the primary Simmons job board, providing employers a vehicle to reach out to and hire Simmons students, both undergraduates and graduate students, and alumnae/i. Employers can post full-time jobs, part-time jobs, internships, volunteer positions, and fellowships.

In your Handshake account you can create an employer contact profile, post jobs for Simmons students and alumnae/i, register for on-campus career fairs and recruiting events, view the resumes of students that have been posted to the system, and more. There is no charge to employers either to set up an account or post position openings.

Register for Handshake. When prompted, indicate that you are an employer. You will need to provide an e-mail address connected with your organization to register as an employer. Please note that if you are registering for a new profile with an organization that is already in Handshake, you will need to be approved by your organization’s point of contact before you can begin using your profile. Please contact careers@simmons.edu if you have any questions about registering for an account or your organization’s status in Handshake

The CEC provides faculty and staff access to Handshake so they can view job listings, upcoming career events, and other career-related information. To obtain access and set up your own account and login, please go to Handshake and:

  • Enter your Simmons e-mail address
  • Select "I'm a Student or Alumni" (even though you are not, this will give you insight into the student view of the system; there is no separate Faculty/Staff login)
  • Click on "Register a New Account"
  • Complete the fields on the screen, accept the terms of service, and click "Submit"
Once a system administrator verifies your faculty/staff status and approves your profile, you will be notified via e-mail and gain full access to Handshake

If you believe you will need more advanced access to Handshake’s systems, such as reporting access, please contact the Career Education Center at careers@simmons.edu to determine if you will need an administrative Handshake account.
