Jennifer Herman

Executive Director, Center for Faculty Excellence

Jennifer Herman is the Executive Director of the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) at Simmons University. In this role, she leads a comprehensive plan for educational and faculty development in alignment with the university’s strategic priorities and in partnership with the Provost’s office. This includes leadership for and oversight of the advancement of teaching excellence, instructional design for the University’s online programs and support for program-level curriculum development, and research administration, including sponsored programs, compliance requirements, and support for the IRB. She also collaborates on faculty career development and recognition programming, while providing leadership for the CFE’s staff and operations.

Dr. Herman’s professional work is driven by a dedication to improving the quality of higher education and helping faculty reach their full potential. She has two decades of experience of leadership in educational and faculty development and has been a principal investigator on a variety of grant-funded internal and multi-institutional projects related to curriculum development, assessment, online learning, and teaching strategy. She is co-author of Creating Engaging Discussions and leads keynotes, workshops, and retreats related to her areas of expertise. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the NEFDC.

In her faculty role as Professor of Practice in Education, Dr. Herman teaches courses on teaching methodologies, course design, and assessment; learning theory and practice; and curriculum development and evaluation for doctoral and master’s students in several graduate programs.

The American Council on Education Women’s Network Massachusetts has recognized Tatiana M.F. Cruz, Assistant Professor and Interdisciplinary Program Director of Africana Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies, and her collaborator Dr. Kamille Gentles-Peart (Roger Williams University) for co-founding and directing the North Star Collective, a group of colleges and universities in New England that are committed to faculty racial equity.
