Maya Valentine

Maya Valentine is a seasoned communications professional with a distinguished career in the U.S. House of Representatives. She currently serves as the Communications Director for Senator-Elect Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE). Previously, she was the Communications Director for Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) and served as Press Secretary for Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05).

As a communications professional in Washington, DC, Maya Valentine has been at the forefront of pivotal moments that have shaped her expertise. She honed her skills during a Democratic House Majority under the Trump Administration, navigated the unprecedented challenges of a once-in-a-century pandemic, and witnessed the resurgence of the racial justice movement following the murder of George Floyd. Maya also experienced the turmoil of the January 6th insurrection and navigated shifts in political power, including critical midterm and presidential elections. These experiences have equipped her with a deep understanding of the complexities of political communications during times of crisis and transformation.

A champion of diversity and inclusion, Maya has held leadership roles such as President of the Congressional Black Associates, the largest staff association on Capitol Hill dedicated to advancing Black staff members' social and political growth. She is also deeply committed to mentorship, actively guiding young Black women in political communications. Additionally, she founded a community of over 100 women in communications in Washington, DC, fostering connections and career development.

Maya resides in Washington, DC, with aspirations of building a career in media to become a prominent national voice in politics. She graduated from Simmons University in 2019 with a major in Journalism, Public Relations and Marketing Communications.
