In 2019, the office of Organizational Culture, Inclusion and Equity was thrilled to have put together a series of events that reflected our mission to elevate marginalized voices, connect with student groups to create diverse programming, and continue our commitment to inclusive excellence.
January 2019 saw the Sisters of the Academy hold their annual symposium for Black Women in Higher Education, followed by the National Day of Racial Healing. Spring welcomed activist Rachel Cargle for a conversation on feminism and race, while Spring ended with a Community Iftar in partnership with the Simmons Islamic Society.
In the Fall, we worked with the Trans and Nonbinary Collective for International Pronouns Day and held a Pronoun Primer workshop for community members. Dr. Stacy Blake-Beard led a workshop on intersectionality and forging connections for students, staff, and faculty, while Harlan Pruden, a two-spirited scholar and activist, led a series of conversations on sex, gender and sexuality in historical and contemporary Native America.
We are excited to continue to create dynamic programming that adds to the already rich dialogues and critical thinking that is present in the Simmons Community.
