Building our Future

Created in 2023, Building Our Future was Simmons University’s strategic plan to strengthen the institution in the midst of a rapidly changing higher education landscape. Rooted in our enduring mission, the plan outlined a mission-driven path to position the University to thrive for the next 125 years. 

The strategy focused on aligning Simmons’ academic programs, operations, and resources with the areas where the University has long demonstrated strength and leadership. It called for renewed investment in programs such as nursing and health sciences, social work, library and information science, management, and communications. It also introduced new opportunities—such as accelerated graduate degree pathways through the Simmons Edge–to better prepare students for meaningful careers and long-term professional growth.

Build a Better Financial Model
The University focused on enhancing its budget model – balancing expenses and revenues, improving our fundraising and financial aid strategy, and aligning finances with strategic institutional priorities.

Create a Connected Community
Through initiatives such as the One Simmons project and the construction of the Living and Learning Center, the plan prioritized creating a more integrated and connected academic community for students, faculty, and staff.
