Support for Practicum Instructors
Seminar in Practicum Instruction (SIPI)
The Seminar in Practicum Instruction (SIPI) is designed for Practicum Instructors who are supervising an MSW intern for the first time. The SIPI is free of charge, includes readings, asynchronous assignments and offers CEUs. All virtual sessions are a combination of didactic discussions and peer consultation.
All beginning Practicum Instructors of Simmons On Ground students (who have not taken a seminar at another school of social work) are encouraged to attend.
SIPI is conducted via Zoom. There will be six virtual sessions held over the course of the year (September-April), with additional asynchronous assignments throughout. The virtual sessions will run for one hour on Wednesday afternoons from 4-5pm.
To engage in Zoom sessions, you must have a computer/cell phone equipped with a camera. As sensitive and confidential discussions may occur, participants should plan to be in a private space. As this is an interactive seminar, participants are expected to be fully present and on camera for the duration of each SIPI session in order to receive full credit.
Due to limited capacity, SIPI will only be available to Practicum Instructors supervising an On Ground (vs. Online) MSW students from Simmons University.
If you are not supervising a Simmons On Ground MSW student and are seeking a Practicum Instructor Seminar, we recommend reaching out to the school where your intern is a student.
