Charles University: Czech Republic

Study in Prague, Czech Republic: this millennial European city with narrow curved streets, marvelous courtyards, and green parks is situated in the middle of the Czech Republic and is a short flight or train ride from Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Poland!

Host Institution: The USAC Czech Republic program is housed at Charles University - one of the oldest European universities founded in 1348 by its namesake, Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV. Like many urban, European universities the campus is integrated into the town itself, with more than 100 buildings spread throughout metropolitan Prague. Your classes will be taught in English inside the Charles University buildings. The coursework comprises three-weeks of an intensive Czech language course in addition to a broad range of electives in Czech language, European politics, culture, and art studies.

The USAC program on campus houses a cafeteria and sport facilities. USAC students will have access to campus computer labs, Charles University student clubs, and wireless internet capability in the shared apartment units.

Majors: Ideal for students studying the humanities, liberal arts, and business.

Housing: Students reside in shared apartments units within commuting distance of campus.

Aarhus University: Denmark

Study in Aarhus, Denmark: A city with a vibrant mix of youthful energy, a long history, and beautiful nature! Aarhus sits on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula, 100 miles from Copenhagen. Aarhus is one of the oldest cities in Scandinavia, but one of the youngest in terms of the average age of its inhabitants—far lower than anywhere else in Denmark.

Host Institution: Aarhus University (AU) is a young, modern university established in 1928. It has grown to become a leading public research university with international reach covering the entire research spectrum, and is listed in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings top 100. As a study abroad student at AU, you will take classes in English with Danish and other international students. Although Danish is the primary language of instruction at AU, there are an array of courses in various subject areas in English. While studying at AU, students are required to maintain full-time status by enrolling in 30 ECTS credits (3-6 classes).

Majors*: AU offers coursework (taught in English) for Simmons students in the humanities and liberal arts including the following majors: art, music, history, communications, journalism, information technology, sociology, and women & gender studies. AU does not provide coursework in the natural, social, and health sciences. Aarhus also offers classes that fulfill many Key Content Areas (KCAs).

Housing*:  Students reside in dormitory accommodation on campus.

Université Lumière Lyon: France

Study in Lyon, France: a UNESCO World Heritage Site that remains an important center for French culture and history! The USAC Lyon program is housed at the University of Lyon, a prestigious institution that specializes in subjects such as the humanities, language, and law - all taught in French.

Host Institution: The campus is situated on the banks of the Rhône River and the Portes des Alpes campus is located closer to the city center. The university has a vibrant student life with frequent cultural events and activities, including concerts on the lawn, student theatre performances, and art exhibits. You can get involved in a number of sporting activities or student organizations. These provide great opportunities to meet French students and practice your language skills in a more natural environment. Clubs on campus hold events such as free movie nights, student debates, and volunteer days.

Majors*: Most courses are taught in French with a select few instructed in English. Classes are available in the following academic disciplines: art, history, anthropology, and POLS/IR. USAC Lyon also offers classes that fulfill many Key Content Areas (KCAs).

Housing*:  Students can elect to reside in dormitory accommodation on the University of Lyon campus or choose to stay in a homestay accommodation within commuting distance of campus.

Requirements: Minimum 3.0 GPA. At least two semesters of college French are required to apply.

Freie University: Germany

Study in Berlin, Germany: a vibrant city shaped by a rich and turbulent history!

Host Institution: The Freie University Berlin (FU Berlin) was founded in 1948 and has since grown into one of the most globally-connected institutions in Germany and the European Union. Freie is ranked among the top 70 universities worldwide and maintains a sprawling urban campus in downtown Berlin. FU Berlin offers a diverse selection of English-taught courses compatible with most Simmons majors outside of the natural and health sciences. Furthermore, as FU is located in the capital of the largest EU member state, this program offers an ideal study abroad setting for POLS/IR majors.

Majors*: Courses available in the following academic disciplines: humanities & liberal arts, social sciences, business, and classes that fulfill most Key Content Areas (KCAs). FU Berlin does not offer coursework in the natural and health sciences.

Housing*: Students elect to live in homestay accommodation or apartment-style housing within commuting distance of campus.

Corvinus University: Hungary

Study in Budapest, Hungary: The capital of a landlocked nation of just over ten million people. This country will steal your heart; lure you back again and again with its thermal spas, natural beauty and hermetic language. Budapest, has a lively arts, café and music scene, and is host to a range of cultural and sporting festivals. In the countryside you will find majestic plains, resort-lined lakes, Baroque towns, horse markets and rustic villages.

Host Institution: International Study Programs (ISP) department of the Corvinus University of Budapest. Students can specialize in international business courses such as marketing, finance, and economics, or choose from a variety of humanities courses such as law, political science, psychology, and more. All courses, with the exception of Hungarian, are offered in English. All students who have not previously studied Hungarian are required to take a Hungarian language course.

Majors*: Ideal for those majoring or minoring in the following fields of study: Marketing, Finance, Art, History, Political Science, Psychology, Business Management, Economics, Information Technology, and Sociology. Students have the opportunity to participate in Corvinus University's Tandem Partners Program. The program facilitates intercultural exchange by matching full-time Hungarian students with recently arrived study abroad students.

Housing*: Local apartment with US and/or international students.

Requirements: Minimum 3.0 GPA. No knowledge of Hungarian required; open to all language levels.

Reykjavik University: Iceland

Study in Reykjavik, Iceland: forged by the fires of still-active volcanoes, this magnificent country straddles the North American and European continental plates! Iceland takes advantage of its abundant, renewable resources, and derives nearly all of its power from geothermal energy, and as such is a world leader in sustainable energy planning. In addition, it is also one of the most technologically developed and socially progressive countries in the world.

Host Institution: Reykjavik University (RU) is located in the capital city of Reykjavik in Iceland and is the country’s largest private institution. Students can enroll in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) as well as Business courses at RU. Courses are geared toward upperclassmen, so Simmons students are recommended to have a background in the subjects they plan on studying abroad at Reykjavik.

Majors*: Most ideal for students studying STEM and Business.

University College Dublin: Ireland

Study in Dublin, Ireland: a city with Celtic, Viking, and Norman origins going as far back as the 7th century!

Host Institution: Study in Ireland, at one of Europe’s most prestigious universities. Since its founding in 1854, University College Dublin (UCD), has made unique and substantial contributions to the creation of modern Ireland as well the European Union. Famous alumnae/i include literary giants Maeve Binchy and James Joyce. Today, UCD is Ireland’s most globally engaged university with a sprawling campus that occupies an extensive parkland estate. UCD offers world-leading facilities including the O’Brien Centre for Science, Lochland Quinn School of Business, School of Nursing & Midwifery, College of Arts & Humanities, and is an ideal destination for all majors at Simmons University.

Host Institution: National University of Ireland Galway (NUI Galway) is located on the west coast of the Republic of Ireland.  NUI Galway ranks among the top 1% of Universities in the world and its history spans almost two centuries. The University offers a wide variety of classes across all departments for Simmons study abroad students where you will enroll in class with local students.

Majors*: Ideal for most Simmons majors including students studying the humanities, liberal arts, natural sciences, social sciences, and business. Opportunities for nursing students are available. NUI Galway also offers classes that fulfill most Key Content Areas (KCAs).

Study in Siena, Italy: nestled in the heart of Tuscany, Siena is a top tourist destination well known for its art, cuisine, and medieval architecture!

Host Institution: The IES Siena campus offers a rigorous Business & Economics of Italian Gastronomy Program ideal for Business, Econ, Agribusiness, Environmental Studies, Political Science, and Agricultural Economics students. Simmons students enroll in four courses for a total of 12 credits where you will explore how business and economic concepts are woven into the fabric of the Italian food industry. Imagine exploring global marketing strategies one day and visiting a local Brunello wine producer with international distribution the next. How about studying EU agriculture policy and then talking to the owner of an agriturismo farm about how these policies impact his business?

Jagiellonian University of Krakow: Poland

Study in Krakow, Poland! Krakow is unique in its beauty - UNESCO has included the city on it's list of World Heritage Sites. This mid-size, historic city boasts a large student population and is easy to navigate through by foot or public transportation.

Host Institution: Jagiellonian University of Krakow is located in the historic city of Krakow. Students select the majority of their classes from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, and International Relations and Polish Studies, and may ask for special permission to complete a course in another department of the university that offers courses in English. The courses are generally attended by American and other international students. All programs begin with a two-week intensive Polish language course.

Host Institution: The University of Granada/GRIIS program offers a wide selection of courses in Spanish, ideal for Simmons students studying the humanities, social sciences, or nursing. Internship and clinical placement opportunities are also available. Family homestay accommodation and built-in travel excursions throughout Spain and North Africa make this a truly immersive semester abroad.

Majors*: Ideal for Spanish language, art history, history, economics, political science/international relations, and sociology majors. Nursing majors can enroll in a "Community Clinical"; placement at the Hospital San Juan de Dios.

Universidad Rey Juan Carlos: Spain

Study in Madrid, Spain: the third-largest city in the European Union and home to a thriving culture of education, arts, sports, politics, economics, and entertainment!

Host Institution: The USAC Madrid program is housed at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos - a public university with approximately 35,000 students distributed among four campuses throughout metropolitan Madrid. Classes are held at the campus located in the Vicálvaro neighborhood and are easily accessible via the subway. Students are able to study Spanish language and the complexities of Spanish and contemporary European societies through a wide selection of academic courses in intensive language, Spanish and European studies, art history, Spanish cinema, history of photography, and drawing.

Majors*: Courses available in English and Spanish in the following academic disciplines: literature, art, history, sociology, political science, economics, women's studies, and anthropology. USAC Madrid also offers classes that fulfill many Key Content Areas (KCAs).

Universidad CEU: San Pablo Madrid, Spain

Study in Madrid, Spain with Academic Programs International (API): Spain's capital since 1561, Madrid is the contemporary capital of Spanish culture, finance, and industry. A large, international and cosmopolitan city, Madrid is a city of possibilities.

Host Institution: Universidad CEU San Pablo is Spain's oldest private university with more than 80 years of experience in higher education. The school is proud of its ability to grant personalized attention to students as well as offering them fully-equipped and highly-qualified facilities (like its FabLab Madrid part of the MIT FabLab Network). It has a strong reputation in the Sciences with prestigious Schools of Pharmacy, Medicine, Engineering and Architecture, this last one accredited by the NAAB.

Housing: API students in Madrid may choose from three different housing options:
