Ever since Simmons opened the first school of social work in the United States in 1904, we have been pioneers in the field.
Today, students, faculty, and graduates are as devoted as ever to empowering society's most vulnerable members, promoting social justice, and protecting the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities.
To prepare for another century of service and leadership in the field of social work, SSW is focused on further strengthening our innovative programs, and making sure our extraordinary faculty has the resources needed to excel in teaching, research, and professional practice.

Building a Career in School Social Work
Melanie Pina ’25MSW is a school social worker at a Boston Public School serving students in grades K0-6 in Dorchester, Massachusetts. From the minute she greets students off the bus in the morning, she says, “my day is about building rapport.”
Empowering Youth Through Clinical Social Work
Cassidy Martin ’25MSW is a clinical social worker for the R.O.O.T.S. program, an initiative of the Gardner Athol Area Mental Health Association (GAAMHA) that supports adolescents and young adults facing challenges related to mental health and substance use. She has a particular interest in working with kids who are neurodiverse or part of the LGBTQ+ community.
From Simmons MSW Student to Psychotherapist
Grace Lincoln ’25MSW is a psychotherapist at Collaborative Insight Counseling Associates (CICA), a mental health group practice in Boston. She works with both adolescents and adults who are seeking support for anxiety, depression, ADHD, and life transitions.
Making a Difference as a School Social Worker
Kyle Greenidge ’25MSW is a school social worker employed within Boston Public Schools. He provides individual therapy for students with a range of needs, including support for mental health challenges or assistance with academic goals and post-graduation planning.

Pioneering Trauma-Informed Care with Expressive Arts
Kapr Bangura is the program director for the Therapeutic After-School Program at the Home for Little Wanderers, the oldest child-welfare organization in the country, focused on serving children who have experienced violence, neglect, and other forms of trauma. In this leadership role, Bangura oversees a strengths-based afterschool program designed to address the therapeutic, educational, and recreational needs of youth ages 12 to 18 and their families.
Family Support Through Care and Housing Support
Deyanira Gomera ’24MSW is a school-based clinician at Housing Families, Inc., a nonprofit in Malden, Massachusetts, that offers a range of programs for individuals and families in need of stable housing. In this role, Gomera works in partnership with Everett and Peabody public schools to provide group therapy to children and teens who are living in shelters.
