Accreditation in Social Work

Council on Social Work Education Accreditation and Competency Assessment

The Simmons School of Social Work’s MSW program (campus and online options) and the BSW program (campus and online options) are fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and in alignment with the 2022 Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards. 

The Simmons University DSW Program applied for Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accreditation in September 2026. The application is currently under review for candidacy status. Candidate programs complete a self-study and candidacy visit, followed by a full accrediting body for issuance of initial accreditation. Students that are admitted to the DSW program in fall 2026 or thereafter will be retroactively recognized as graduates from a CSWE-accredited program as long as the program attains initial accreditation. Accreditation provides reasonable assurance about the quality of the program and the expertise and skills of doctoral scholar-practitioners. Massachusetts DESE SSW/SAC Endorsement

The School of Social Work is approved by Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to endorse graduates of the School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor (SSW/SAC) program for their initial state license. See the Massachusetts initial license requirements.
