Master of Social Work: Advanced Standing (BSW Holders)
Earn your MSW degree in 9 months
If you earned your Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) in the last seven years, you could qualify for our Master of Social Work (MSW) Advanced Standing program option.
Complete your master's degree full-time, in-person or online, starting in September and graduating in May. Build your BSW knowledge and gain clinical experience to prepare for advanced clinical social work practice.
With your accelerated MSW, you'll qualify for many impactful roles in social services. You could become a licensed therapist, a social work manager, a school social worker, or a healthcare social worker. You will also be eligible to pursue licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW).
What will you learn in the MSW Advanced Standing program?
Simmons is one of the few institutions in the nation dedicated exclusively to clinical social work. As an MSW Advanced Standing student, you’ll benefit from a program known for scholastic excellence, rigorous clinical training, and a social justice focus.
In the Advanced Standing Program, you will:
- Participate in a seminar designed for advanced standing students that integrates theory and evidence-based practice
- Complete a clinically-focused practicum, paired with a seminar to improve your practical skills
- Take 8 advanced-level MSW courses, including 2 electives you choose
What can you do with an MSW from Simmons?
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment of social workers will grow 6% from 2024 to 2034, making social work an in-demand profession.
Our program prepares you for careers in clinical social work, including mental health, medical social work, aging services, and child and family services. You are also eligible to sit for the LCSW licensure exam. MSW graduates work in the following areas:
