At Simmons University, you are welcome at any stage of life. Here, you’ll find guidance on how to apply to our Dorothea Lynde Dix Scholar program (for students age 24 and up).

Admission Requirements and Deadlines for Dix Scholars 

In addition to your application, submit:

  • Official Transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities should be sent directly by the institution to the Simmons Office of Undergraduate Admission.
  • Proof of high school graduation or equivalency, including one of the following:
    • An official high school transcript showing proof of graduation.
    • Official score results from a high school equivalency exam (HiSET, GED, TASC, etc).
    • Signed form attesting to the completion of high school requirements or earned equivalency exam with applicable dates and locations. Upload completed high school attestation form to your application, titling it "Last Name_First Name_High School Attestation." Please note: The high school attestation form cannot be accepted for nursing program applicants.
  • One personal, employer, or academic recommendation, preferably academic if you are currently enrolled.
  • Personal Statement – Describe how your personal and professional experiences have influenced your decision to attend college as an adult student.

You qualify as a Dix Scholar or adult student if you are 24 years or older or are pursuing a second bachelor’s degree.

Credit for Prior Learning

Your work and life experience count. With Credit for Prior Learning, you can earn up to 24 credits for college-level learning you’ve gained outside the classroom, including prior work experience and learned experience. Email [email protected] with “CPL Interest” in the subject line to begin the portfolio process with an academic advisor.
