Study Abroad for Nursing Students

Through our partnerships with University College Dublin and the Granada Institute for International Studies (GRIIS), among others, nursing majors can fulfill Key Content Area (KCA) courses, partake in clinical rotations, and receive nursing electives while studying in Ireland, Spain, and other destinations. Nursing majors are recommended to enroll in a semester abroad during the first semester junior year. In order to study abroad during this semester, Nursing students are required to enroll in "NURS 346 Medical Surgical Nursing II" at Simmons during the summer between sophomore and junior year. Granada, Spain

During the fall or spring semester at Granada Institute for International Studies, nursing students can fulfill the clinical requirement for Nursing Care of Individuals, Families, and Communities and enroll in key content area courses. This program is available for nursing majors enrolled in their junior year. Homestay accommodations are provided.

Prerequisites

  • Intermediate proficiency required (SPN 245)
  • Students must enroll in the following clinical courses during summer after sophomore year or summer after junior year. 
    • Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
    • Medical Surgery Nursing II

Dublin, Ireland

During the fall or spring semester at the University College Dublin's School of Nursing, nursing students can enroll in a robust selection of Nursing electives and key content areas courses. This program is available for nursing majors enrolled in their Junior year. Dormitory accommodations are provided on campus.

Prerequisites

  • Students must enroll in the following courses during the summer after sophomore year or summer after junior year:
    • Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
    • Medical Surgery Nursing II

University College Dublin: Summer

This program is available in a 2 or 4 week option. Nursing majors may engage in this opportunity during any summer as an undergraduate student. Dormitory accommodations are provided on campus. Nursing students can enroll in one or both of the following nursing electives:

  • Health: A Systems Perspective
  • Research for Nursing Practice
