Study Abroad for Nursing Students

Nursing Students can study abroad! To further explore your study abroad options and be academically prepared for the experience please contact the CGE or your academic adviser Cayce Jones within the first year at Simmons. Please note: Program and scholarship applications are due on March 15th for the study abroad options below.

To study abroad for a semester, there are two options for Nursing students to choose from:

Standard Nursing Program (8 semesters)

When: Junior/Third Year, Fall Semester 
Where: Any Simmons Approved Study Abroad program

Please note that students selecting this option must enroll in NURS 346 Medical Surgical Nursing II at Simmons during the summer between sophomore and junior year. Please consult the Nursing curriculum sheet for more details and review the information below.

10 Semester Nursing Program 

When: Sophomore/Second Year, Fall Semester 
Where: Any Simmons Approved Study Abroad program

Study Abroad Opportunities For Nursing Students

University College Dublin

During the fall or spring semester at the University College Dublin's School of Nursing, nursing students can enroll in a robust selection of Nursing electives and key content areas courses. This program is available for nursing majors enrolled in their Junior year. Dormitory accommodations are provided on campus.

GRIIS, Granada, Spain

During the fall or spring semester at Granada Institute for International Studies, students can fulfill the required Nursing Health Care Policy and Practice (NUR 336) clinical placement at the Hospital San Juan de Dios and take a Spanish language course

This program is available for nursing majors enrolled in their junior year. Homestay accommodations are provided.

Prerequisite: Intermediate proficiency required (SPN 245)

Summer Option

All Nursing Majors are invited to consider studying abroad during their summer terms. There are a variety of summer programs, ranging from Public Health, Traditional Medicine, Arts and everything else in between! Students may select a location, program length and area of study that fits their academic needs.

Additionally, Simmons has a unique option with University College Dublin for Nursing majors to fulfill one or both of the following Nursing electives:

  • Health: A Systems Perspective
  • Research for Nursing Practice

This program is available in a 2 or 4-week option. Nursing majors may engage in this opportunity during any summer as an undergraduate student. Dormitory accommodations are provided on campus.
