Simmons offers a number of international experiences that align with your academic pursuits, professional goals, and geographic interests. These overseas opportunities include semester, summer and January term abroad, as well as internships across the globe.

Study abroad pathways

Beginning with Fall 2027 Study Abroad, the Center for Global Education (CGE) is launching updated Study Abroad Pathways designed to expand access and variety while aligning international experiences with your academic and career goals.

  • Selection & Capacity: Participation is by early application only and acceptance is not guaranteed. Applications undergo a holistic review focused on academic rationale, financial need, and career goal alignment. You must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, have completed one academic year at Simmons at the time of participation and receive disciplinary, financial and academic clearance from Simmons.
  • Application Deadline: February 1 annually for the following academic year.
  • Approved Programs: Choose from a list of Simmons-approved programs offered during the Fall, Spring, Summer or January terms.
  • Program Financials: You pay tuition, housing and the Study Abroad Fee to Simmons. You remain eligible for Simmons Financial Aid. Simmons pays study abroad programs directly for your tuition and housing fees.
  • Short-Term Program Financials (Summer & January Term): You pay the Simmons Study Abroad Fee, and Simmons pays the Study Abroad Program for tuition and housing fees.
  • Selection & Capacity: You are eligible to apply if you are a current Simmons student with a minimum 2.5 GPA and have completed one academic year at Simmons before program participation. Participation is not limited. You must choose a program offered through an approved study abroad provider, and must receive disciplinary, financial and academic clearance from Simmons prior to program participation.
  • Application Deadlines:
    • October 1 for Spring and January Term programs
    • March 1 for Fall and Summer programs
  • Approved Programs: You can choose from a broad list of programs offered by Simmons’ study abroad partners, which include USAC, IES, API, Worldstrides and SIT.
  • Financials: Simmons institutional financial aid does not apply. You pay the Simmons Study Abroad Fee but will not be billed for Simmons tuition or housing. You remain eligible for federal and non-Simmons financial aid, and CGE can assist you in identifying external study abroad scholarships.
