SLIS Graduate Student Research Assistantship

Each year, the School of Library and Information Science offers a number of paid assistantship positions that allow MSLIS students to gain valuable research experience. Graduate Student Research Assistants benefit from significantly reduced tuition through a scholarship amounting to coverage of two-thirds of the MSLIS tuition, and generate an income through the wages they earn in their paid assistantship position. 

In the position, you’ll work 10 hours per week and be paired with SLIS faculty with similar interests to support their research projects during the academic year. Assistantships are awarded for one year, with a strong possibility of renewal for a second year. 

Finalists for the role will be notified of their finalist status in their acceptance letter, and will receive their decision by December 1 for spring, or April 1 for fall.

Requirements and Eligibility

• You must have your application AND all required documents submitted by the priority deadline: October 15 for spring, February 1 for fall. 
• Applicants for programs that require interviews do not need to have the interview completed by the deadline; the admission office will contact you to schedule a time. 
• You must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or higher, or a graduate degree with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. 
• You must be enrolled full-time (3 courses/ semester).
• Students studying online or at our Boston and SLIS West campuses are eligible.
• Dual degree students are eligible.
• International students are eligible.

To be considered for a Research Assistantship, indicate your interest on your application for admission. You will then be prompted to respond to the question: In 100-125 words, please describe how your skills and experience make you a strong candidate to assist Simmons faculty with their research.
