Internal Funding for Faculty and Graduate Students

Application portal

Internal Award Programs

Submission Deadlines are in November and March (see Application Portal for specific dates)

The Fund for Research awards grants to promote and support research at Simmons. "Research" is interpreted broadly—to embrace both analytical and creative efforts. The Committee encourages proposals to support the initial development stages of a project, which could be expected to receive consideration from outside funding sources when ready for full study; and support proposals intended to enable the researcher to complete a project already underway or to undertake and carry to completion a more limited project.

Deadline – Rolling

To maintain and enhance the academic integrity and vitality of the University, institutional support for faculty development is crucial. All full-time faculty are eligible to apply. The Faculty Development Fund supports activities that contribute to the overall professional development of Simmons University faculty. These activities include presenting papers at professional meetings, poster presentations, participation on panels, and the like.

Submission Deadline mid-November (see Application portal for updates)

The Simmons University Graduate Student Research Fund supports student-initiated scholarly research and creative endeavors. Awards typically range between $500 and $1,000.

All enrolled graduate students who are conducting or intend to conduct student-initiated scholarly research or creative endeavors may apply. Funds may not be used to support enrollment in language study, established institutional research programs, or study-abroad programs. In addition, grants cannot be used to fund internships or participation in volunteer activities.

Deadline – Rolling

The Simmons University Graduate Student Travel Award competition provides financial support to graduate students who are attending and presenting research at academic or professional conferences. Preference will be given to those who are making a presentation. In cases where the applicant will not be presenting, the student statement and faculty letter of recommendation should address the importance of attendance for the student's professional development. Preference is given to students who have not previously received a Graduate Student Travel Grant.

Previously funded internal applications are listed in the Research at Simmons Annual Reports: FY19 - see pages 14-19 and FY20 - see pages 40-48.
