Graduate Student Organizations

Graduate student organizations at Simmons University connect you with peers and professionals in your field. Organized primarily by academic school or professional field, they offer opportunities for professional development, networking, leadership, and advocacy.

Organizations by School

  • LISSA (Library and Information Science Student Association): The central student body for all SLIS students; it coordinates social events, professional mixers, and guest speakers.
  • LISSA West: LISSA West is the student organization’s branch at the Greenfield campus.
  • ALA Student Chapter (American Library Association): Provides networking and professional growth for future librarians.
  • SAA Student Chapter (Society of American Archivists): For students focusing on archives and preservation.
  • SoCS (Students of Color at SLIS): Provides a vital support network and advocacy space for graduate students of color. 
  • Panopticon: For students interested in art, cultural heritage, and visual resources in libraries and museums.
  • Student Chapter of the Association for Information Science & Technology: For students interested in new and improved theories, techniques, and technologies to improve access to information.
  • PLG (Progressive Librarians Guild): Provides a forum for critical perspectives in library and information science.
  • AMIA (Association of Moving Image Archivists): For students interested in the preservation, archiving, and restoration of audiovisual materials.
  • SCIRRT (Student Chapter of the International Relations Roundtable): For students who wish to engage in a variety of globally-focused initiatives.
  • SPECTRA: An LGBTQ+ affinity group.
  • SLASC (Special Libraries Association Student Chapter): Provides students with networking, leadership, and professional opportunities in specialized fields like corporate, medical, legal, and museum libraries.
  • Women’s Sports Business Collective: A group (tied to the Women’s Sports concentration) that connects students with leaders in the professional sports industry.
  • Sigma Theta Tau (Theta-at-Large Chapter): The International Nursing Honor Society. Membership is by invitation based on clinical excellence and academic achievement.
  • Student Nurses Association (SNA): While largely undergraduate, graduate nursing students often serve as mentors or participate in their professional advocacy events.
  • DPT Student Ambassadors: Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) students who serve as liaisons for prospective students and lead professional seminars.
  • Behavior Analysis Professional Cohorts: Graduate students in this department often form tight-knit cohorts that organize virtual and on-campus symposia, such as the Contemporary Developments in Behavior Analysis conference.
  • Phi Alpha Honor Society: dedicated to honoring diversity, equality, inclusivity, justice and fostering a community where individuals from all walks of life can flourish.
  • Payment 4 Placement (P4P): a nationwide movement calling for all social work students to be paid for their field work.
  • SSW LGBTQ Group: Open to BSW and MSW students to raise awareness about LGBTQ needs in the clinical field.
  • SSW LGBTQ (Latinx): Fall 2026, charter in progress centering queer-of-color and Latiné identified students.
  • Expressive Arts and SW: A group for students interested in expressive arts in conjunction with clinical social work can be used as a tool for collaboration, creation,self-discovery, and community-building.
