Carla Kath is an Associate Professor of Practice at Simmons University, where she teaches multiple facets of corporate communication to prepare students for careers at the intersection of strategy, storytelling, and service.
With nearly 20 years of experience in integrated marketing communications, public relations, media relations, employee communication, crisis communication, and brand management, Professor Kath brings deep, real-world expertise into the classroom, helping students understand how communication functions as a strategic business partner that builds trust and efficiency for organizations of any size.
Before joining Simmons, Kath served as Director of Communications for Boston Globe Media, where she partnered closely with newsroom leaders, senior executives, journalists, and cross-functional teams to develop and implement internal and external communication strategies aligned with business objectives and brand reputation. Prior to that, she served the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at ForHealth Consulting at UMass Chan Medical School, leading internal communications and employee engagement initiatives. Her experience in the public sector also includes communications roles with the Massachusetts Office of the Treasury and the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind.
Earlier in her career, Kath held communication and marketing roles at Franciscan Children’s Hospital, Staffbase, Global Prairie, and the American Cancer Society. She also worked as a freelance writer for The Kansas City Star, Kansas City Magazine, Brandeis School of Business and Economics, and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham.
Kath earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Millsaps College and a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University College of Communication, later returning to BU as an adjunct faculty member teaching corporate communication, international public relations, and health communication. She lives in the Boston area with her husband, their two daughters, and their rescue dog, Pancake.
