What is SURPASs?
SURPASs is a six-week paid, mentored summer research and creative scholarship experience for undergraduate students across disciplines. The 2026 SURPASs Program will take place between May 19 - June 26, 2026.
As part of the application process, you’ll partner with a faculty or staff mentor to design and propose a project that reflects your interests and career goals. Whether you’re exploring patient care innovations, community wellness initiatives, lab-based research, data analysis, or information access and equity, SURPASs provides the tools, support, and mentorship to help your ideas thrive.
Projects range in scope and scale, and may include clinical/lab research, literature reviews, designing and conducting interviews, collecting and analyzing data, and more! Join our upcoming info session on November 18 or December 3 to hear from previous SURPASs scholars and receive guidance on the application process.
SURPASs scholars will receive a $3,500 stipend, a project budget of up to $1,000, and on-campus housing for the duration of the intensive. In addition, faculty mentors will receive a $2,000 stipend.
How to Apply
If you are interested in SURPASs, we encourage you to approach a prospective faculty mentor as early as November to begin brainstorming ideas, developing, and submitting a proposal. A complete submission includes the following materials:
- Project Narrative and Timeline
- Personal Statement
- Budget
- Faculty and Scholar Mentoring Plan
