Simmons University's School of Library and Information Science and the University of Maine at Augusta have partnered to offer an accelerated Bachelor to Master's Program that provides a seamless, expedited pathway for UMA Bachelor’s of Information and Library Science (ILS) alumni to earn your Master of Science in Library and Information Science (MSLIS) degree.

This innovative program is designed to help you gain a competitive edge and jumpstart your career in this dynamic field.

  • Fast-Track Your Career: As a UMA ILS graduate you will take an accelerated 30-credit curriculum, and you can also get an optional head start on your master's degree by taking up to 6 graduate credits (2 courses) from Simmons during your final year at UMA at a 50% discount.
  • Expedited Application: As a UMA ILS student or graduate, you'll benefit from an application fee waiver and expedited application process to the Simmons MSLIS program.
  • Personalized Support: Both UMA and Simmons are committed to your success. You'll receive comprehensive academic advising and support services to help you plan your courses and navigate your academic journey.
  • Save Money: Your undergraduate financial aid can be used towards your 2 Simmons courses taken while still at UMA. Once you graduate from UMA and matriculate at Simmons, you'll be considered for all financial aid and scholarship opportunities available to regularly accepted SLIS students.
  • Flexible Curriculum: Choose one of six concentrations, or combine your MSLIS with a MA in History or Children’s Literature. You can move to our Boston or Western MA campuses, or stay online!

Your Path to a Master's Degree

  1. Excel at UMA: Maintain a strong academic record with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in your Bachelor of Information and Library Science program.
  2. Start Early (Optional but Recommended): Take up to 6 graduate credits (2 courses) from Simmons during your senior year at UMA at a 50% discount. You can use your undergraduate financial aid towards your Simmons tuition.
  3. Apply to Simmons (hyperlink this to the apply page): During your final semester at UMA, apply for admission to the MSLIS program at Simmons University through our streamlined application. Your application fee will be waived, and only two recommendations will be required (including one from the UMA program director).
  4. Graduate from UMA: Successfully complete your Bachelor of Information and Library Science degree at the University of Maine at Augusta.
  5. Seamlessly Transition to Simmons: Upon graduating from UMA, you'll matriculate into the Simmons MSLIS program, ready to build on the credits you may have already earned.
  6. Complete Your MSLIS: Fulfill the remaining credits of your 30-credit MSLIS program at Simmons University.
