Natasha Friedman '17 on Daly Field: We Belong Here

June 10, 2016

Natasha Friedman

We caught up with Natasha about the soccer team — and the new Daly Field!

What are you studying at Simmons?

Communications with a concentration in media arts. I'm minoring in marketing.

What's your favorite class you've taken so far?

Photography with Edie Bresler. The class offers students the chance to show their creativity and explore ideas that interest them. Edie's an amazing professor and photographer. She has taught me so much about cameras and how to make my photos better.

What sport do you play? What position?

I play center defense for the soccer team.

How do you balance being a student athlete?

Balancing soccer and school has been challenging at times but it's definitely manageable. I do my homework when I'm not in class or at practice — which sometimes means doing homework on the bus ride to games. There have been nights where I have to stay up late because I wasn’t able to complete something for class. I would never take soccer away in order to make my life as a student easier. Being an athlete helps me to organize my time, not procrastinate and know what it's like to work hard.

What's your favorite part about playing sports at Simmons?

I love being able to step on the field for practices and games and know that this is my whole world. I love being able to compete for the win or the championship, even knowing that the end result may not be what I want. My second favorite part is having teammates that inspire me and are always there for me. They are there in good times and bad.

What's your breakfast routine before a match?

A bowl of cheerios with a banana.

Who is your sports idol?

Julie Johnston, a center defender for the U.S. Women’s National Soccer team.

Tell us about Daly Field.

Daly Field allows my team to have the chance to host semi-final and final games in play-offs. The field will be a great addition next season.

How does it make you feel knowing that you're going to be playing on one of the finest fields in the region?

It comes with great pride to be able to say that that is our field. We belong here.

What's your Simmons moment?

I can’t really think of just one moment at Simmons that shows why I love going here. All my moments at Simmons have been amazing and I can’t wait to make more within the next year and a half before I graduate.
