Awards, Publications, and Presentations from Faculty, Staff, Students and Alums - including a Mover & Shaker!

Associate Prof. Gerald Benoit gave a talk, "Demystifying Search Engines" on February 24 at the Harvard Library. The talk was part of the Discovery Initiative series.

Simmons GSLIS Alum Tom Blake '06LS has been named a "Mover & Shaker" by Library Journal. The list calls attention to the advancements and innovations of library professionals. As Digital Projects Manager at the Boston Public Library, Blake has been pivotal in the growth of the library's Digital Services department, created in 2005. GSLIS Ph.D./MLIP candidate Jasmina Jusic's article "Entrepreneurial Leadership in Public Libraries" won first place in the Public Library Association's featured article contest. The article was published in the July/August 2013 issue of "Public Libraries" and was chosen as the best feature article of the year by the magazine's Advisory Committee at the ALA Midwinter Meeting. Jusic will be presented with her award during a presentation at the PLA President's Program at the ALA Annual Conference, held June 26 - July 1 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Megan Lambert '02MA, an instructor with the Center for the Study of Children's Literature, will moderate a discussion with Norton Juster, author of The Phantom Tollbooth. A part of the 2014 Lowell Lecture Series, the talk is on Wednesday, April 2, 6 p.m. at the Boston Public Library's Rabb Lecture Hall. A book sale and author signing will follow the talk. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Seating in Rabb Lecture Hall is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. No advance reservations are available.

Liz Phipps-Soeiro '07LS, a school librarian in Cambridge, has started a Kickstarter campaign to create a "Book Bikemobile" which would deliver free books to children and families at local parks during the summer.
