Olivia Montgomery

Associate Professor of Practice and Onground MSW Practicum Education Specialist

Olivia Montgomery MSW, LICSW (she/they) is a Practicum Education Specialist and Associate Professor of Practice at Simmons University School of Social Work. Olivia’s primary expertise is in Fat Liberation and Health-At-Every-Size frameworks, working to reduce weight-stigma and anti-fat bias in healthcare. She is the founder of Boundless Body Collective, LLC, and is an educator, public speaker, and leader in the field of Body Liberation.

Prior to joining the Simmons faculty, Olivia has extensive practice, supervisory, and teaching expertise across clinical settings, including medical hospitals, psychiatric facilities, outpatient clinics, schools, private practice, and suicide prevention organizations. She has substantial experience providing trauma-focused treatment and clinical PTSD protocols to veterans and active service members, sexual trauma survivors, and survivors of suicide. Olivia is also a trained Psychological Autopsy Investigator, certified via the American Association of Suicidology. She received her MSW from Simmons University, and her B.S. from the University of California, Santa Cruz

Associate Professor of Social Work Olivia Montgomery Promotes Fat Liberation

In December of 2023, Simmons School of Social Work Associate Professor Olivia Montgomery offered virtual testimony in support of a bill prohibiting body size discrimination. In a presentation to the Simmons community in February, Montgomery offered an introduction to Fat Liberation in Social Work, examining the root causes of anti-fatness and its widespread consequences.
