Master’s in Nutrition and Health Promotion
Simmons University’s Master of Science in Nutrition and Health Promotion degree program helps students develop an advanced understanding of nutrition, fitness, and wellness. Graduates of the program evaluate health behaviors on a global level and seek to influence the nutrition of our population through health education.
Whether you decide to study online through our new distance learning program or attend classes on campus—surrounded by the world-renowned teaching hospitals and research facilities along Longwood Avenue in Boston—our program is designed to extend beyond acute care issues to promote community health. Students learn the practical aspects of working in the field of nutritional wellness.
Our students come from backgrounds in nutrition, biology, health sciences, health education, athletic training, exercise physiology, and physical education. Upon graduation, they are prepared for a wide range of careers as health educators, researchers, and more.
Why study Nutrition and Health Promotion?
According to the World Health Organization, health promotion enables people to increase control over their own health. It covers a wide range of social and environmental interventions that are designed to benefit and protect global wellness by addressing and preventing the root causes of poor health, rather than focusing on treatment and cure alone.
Armed with a Master’s degree, graduates of Simmons’ Master’s in Nutrition and Health Promotion program provide indispensable knowledge on nutrition, health, and wellness to the world at large. The services that Nutrition and Health Promotion professionals provide are imperative to creating and maintaining a healthy population.
What will you learn?
The Master’s in Nutrition and Health Promotion program has two tracks: the Wellness Track and the Nutrition Entrepreneurship track.
Wellness
The Wellness track is designed for students interested in someday working in or opening a private practice, becoming a registered dietician, pursuing health education or nutritional counseling, and more.
Nutrition Entrepreneurship
This track is for students interested in developing entrepreneurial ventures or starting their own business in the food and nutrition field. The curriculum for the Entrepreneurship concentration includes courses from the Department of Nutrition and Simmons School of Business and culminates with the completion of a customized business plan.
Our nutrition and health promotion master’s program can be completed in one academic year including one summer session, or in two to four years of part-time study (for U.S. students only). On-campus classes are offered in the evening with some individual courses offered online, and our new online program offers fully online nutrition courses. Students pursuing the online degree have the same opportunities to customize their program as students in the on-campus program by selecting from either the Wellness or Entrepreneurship tracks.
