McGrath Study Abroad and Global Intern Scholarship
The McGrath Study Abroad and Global Intern Scholarship provides funding to undergraduate students to study abroad or participate in a global internship through SIT during the Summer of 2024. Scholarships cover tuition fees, room and board, airfare, visa and immunization fees.
This competition is sponsored by the Provost's Office, Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, and the Center for Global Education, and funded by the McGrath Foundation.
Eligibility
Open to all full-time, on-the-ground undergraduate students in good academic standing. Please note that graduating seniors are not eligible to apply. Given the limited number of scholarships available, thoughtful and compelling applications from students with high financial need will be prioritized.
Programs
In partnership with SIT, we are excited to offer scholarships for the following programs:
- Czech Republic: Arts Studios in Creative Writing, Contemporary Dance, & Photography
- Iceland: Renewable Energy, Technology, & Resource Economics (Previous college-level coursework or background in engineering, economics, environmental science or studies, or related fields, as assessed by SIT.)
- India: Traditional Medicine & Healthcare Practices
- Italy: Food Security and Nutrition
- Netherlands: Human Trafficking, Sex Trade, & Modern Slavery in Europe
- Panama: Marine Ecology & Blue Carbon Conservation in the Pacific & Caribbean (Previous college-level coursework and/or other preparation in environmental studies, ecology, biology, or related fields, as assessed by SIT. There is no language prerequisite. You will spend most of the time in the water and must be able to swim well.)
- South Africa: Internship in Diplomacy, Politics, & International Relations
- South Africa: Social Justice & Activism Internship
- South Africa: Journalism & Digital Media (Strong writing skills and an interest in journalism and digital media required.)
- Spain: Sustainable Urban Development & Social Justice
- Switzerland: Global Health & Development Policy (Basic French language proficiency recommended.)
- Switzerland: International Studies & Multilateral Diplomacy (Basic French language proficiency recommended)
- Vietnam: Traditional Medicine & Community Health
Application Submission

Terms and Conditions
Funds will directly cover the cost of tuition, room and board, and airfare, and may provide reimbursement for visa fees, immunizations, and other core travel expenses. Recipients will be required to submit receipts for any reimbursed expenses by August 1, 2024.
At the conclusion of the study abroad program or global internship, scholarship recipients will submit a written reflection on their study abroad or internship experience. In addition, recipients must acknowledge grant support on any digital or print publications.
Please note: Recipients who cancel participation after tuition funds have been remitted will be required to cover the cost of any non-refundable expenses.
