Free Cece! PosterOn her way to the store with a group of friends, Chrishaun Reed "CeCe" McDonald was brutally attacked. While defending her life, a man was killed. After a coercive interrogation, CeCe was incarcerated in a men's prison in Minnesota. After an international movement to free her, CeCe emerged as a leader to interrogate the prison industrial complex and inspire women to fight back when attacked.

Produced by Laverne Cox, FREE CECE! pushes past the everyday narrative of victimhood surrounding the lives of transgender people and spotlights the way CeCe and other trans people are leading a growing movement to fight for the rights of transgender people everywhere.

Directed by Jacqueline Gares (USA, 2016, 87 mins). Visit Free CeCe! to learn more about CeCe's inspiring story.
