For Transfer Students

Welcome! If you decide to transfer to Simmons, you won't be alone. Each year, more than 50 students transfer here, attracted by our highly respected academic programs and welcoming community. As you prepare your Simmons application materials, remember that our admission staff is here to give you the information, advice, and the personal attention you need to make the process go smoothly.

If you are an adult student (24 years of age or older) you should apply through the Dix Scholars Program.

Please note: A student is only considered a transfer student if they have earned 17 or more credits in a degree-seeking program. Students who have earned 16 or less credits, in a degree seeking program or not, must apply as a first-year student.

Admission Requirements

The recommended grade point average (GPA) is a 2.8 for transfer students. You may transfer up to 80 semester hours of credit for courses passed with a grade of C or better at an accredited institution. Additional transfer requirements include:

  • High School Transcript(s) - waived with completed Associate's degree
  • College Transcript(s) from all institutions attended
  • Standardized Test Scores - required for nursing and physical therapy applicants. For all other majors, waived with 32 complete credits. 
  • Essay/Personal Statement
  • College Recommendations (Adviser and Faculty)
  • Mid-term Grade Report if requested - Applicants who will have 32 credits at the end of their current semester can choose to submit a Mid-Term Grade Report to have their standardized testing waived.
  • Interview (recommended, not required)

**Note that once you submit your materials, we aren't able to return them, so please make copies of any original material.

Transferring Credits

In general, we grant credit for any course completed at another accredited institution with a C or better, provided a comparable course is offered by Simmons. Up to 80 semester hours of credit may be transferred to Simmons.

To be eligible for a Simmons undergraduate degree, you must complete at least 48 semester hours of credit (equivalent to three semesters, full-time) at Simmons. The number of credits you transfer to Simmons University will determine your academic standing upon entering Simmons. Grades earned for transfer courses will not be averaged into the Simmons GPA or appear on the Simmons transcript.

  • Fewer than 32 credits: First-year student
  • 32 to 63 credits: Sophomore
  • 64 to 80 credits: Junior
Transfer Credit Evaluation

A transfer credit evaluation (TCE) can help you better understand which of your previously taken courses will transfer into Simmons. Please note that all admitted or waitlisted applicants will receive a transfer credit evaluation shortly after acceptance. You may also request a preliminary transfer credit evaluation by submitting all official college transcripts to the Undergraduate Admission Office and emailing your admission counselor a request for the preliminary transfer credit be completed.
