Undergraduate Advising

Undergraduate Advising prepares students to achieve personal and academic goals. Our advisors motivate students to explore their values, interests, and skills — and ensure that students meet all their requirements.

Meet with an Advisor

To schedule an appointment with your academic advisor, please call 617-521-2474 or email advising@simmons.edu

We typically do not accept same day appointments, so please call to set up a time to meet with your advisor at least one business day in advance. Advising appointments are most productive when both the advisor and the student are prepared for the appointment.

Things to consider before meeting with your advisor:

  • What do you hope to get out of or learn from your advising session?
  • What questions do you have about courses, prerequisites, or major requirements?
  • Which courses are you interested in taking? What subjects interest you the most? What subjects to you find most challenging?
  • What are your academic and co-curricular goals and interests?
  • Where do you see yourself after graduation? 5 years out? 10 years out?

Drop-in Advising Hours

Several times a year (including the first days of classes and days leading up to registration) the Office of Undergraduate Advising will have drop-in advising hours. Drop-in advising provides immediate access to academic advisors without making a prior appointment, for brief questions in regards to:

  • Adding or dropping courses
  • Changing course sections
  • Major requirements
  • All-college requirements
  • Taking summer courses

For consultations requiring more in-depth conversations, it is recommended that students make an appointment with their advisors.

Cancelling appointments:

  • If you are unable to keep your appointment for any reason, please call to cancel and/or re-schedule. If you are running late, please call to notify the advising staff. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you may be required to re-schedule your appointment.
  • The academic advisors are involved in many activities at Simmons, in addition to their advising responsibilities. Because of this, you may not be able to meet with your advisor on short notice or receive an immediate email or phone reply. Your advisor will get back to you as soon as possible.
