Internships and Jobs

An internship or experiential learning is an important part of your Simmons education.

Are you looking to do an internship?

Getting real-life experience is essential to exploring careers, honing skills and developing expertise. Students who pursue an internship are ready to face employment or graduate school as more experienced and confident candidates. Internships can be completed at any point during your Simmons experience.

Make sure to check with your Department Internship Coordinator to know when an internship for credit might be appropriate or required. For Communications, Media, Art, and Design students there are three faculty internship coordinators to connect with if you are thinking about doing an internship. The Career Education Center is also here to support you in your search. Please schedule an internship appointment at the CEC!

This is the Capstone of the Arts Administration major. You will pair a four-credit advanced seminar with a four-credit external internship. This course examines the theory and practice of arts administration through academic readings, class discussion, and real-world, semester-long projects. You will develop concrete professional skills including curation, event management and marketing, arts-related writing for the general public, and grant writing.

In this course, students develop a personal marketing plan, including resume, cover letter, portfolio, LinkedIn profile, etc. Students practice job searching and interviewing and hear from recent graduates and professionals in the communications field. A weekly blog required.

NOTE: You will work with the Internship Director to secure an appropriate internship.  You must be engaged in an internship experience at the same time that you are enrolled in COMM 370 or 380 Field Experience, in order to get credit.  Applications due by Oct. 15 for spring semester or March 15 for summer or fall semesters.

In HUM 370 we consider various career paths; we learn about how to write expert cover letters and résumés; we practice interviewing, networking, and negotiating. Through journal assignments and a final project, students also integrate disciplinary knowledge — their coursework — with their internship and professional experiences. After taking HUM 370, students know how to articulate the skills and learning of their time at Simmons in ways compelling to potential employers. And they're ready to face employment as more experienced and confident job-seekers. Can be taken for 4 or 8 credits depending on internship hours. Serves as a Capstone for Ifill majors (except COMM & Arts Administration) and is the appropriate course for students with any Ifill major or minor except Arts Administration and Communications.
