Admission FAQ: COVID-19

Simmons is closely monitoring updates regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19), and for the time being the campus is working remotely in order to abide by social distancing orders. We are, however, offering numerous virtual visit options during this time so that you can continue to get your questions answered and meet Simmons staff, faculty, and students. Additionally, we are offering flexibility with deadlines and admission requirements.

Campus Visit

Can I visit campus?

We are currently only offering in person tours for admitted students on a limited basis. We encourage you to participate in our Simmons Series including live information sessions, live virtual campus tours, student panels and more. Learn more and register.

How can I see what Campus is like?

You can register for an info session and live virtual tour, view our virtual tour video, as well as experience many sights on campus in our numerous videos, on our YouTube channel.

Will the Transfer and Adult Information Sessions be offered as scheduled?

The online events will be offered as scheduled, and the on-campus events will be offered online instead. Learn more about information sessions.


Can I speak with my admission counselor directly?

Yes, you can email your admission counselor with any questions, or to schedule a time for a phone or video call.

Are interviews offered and how do I arrange to have one?

Yes, we are offering virtual first-year and transfer admission interviews. Interviews are not a part of the our application process for Adult Students. Schedule your interview here.

Application Review

As we move forward, our application reviews will take into account the fact that students encountered changes this spring due to closures, including:

  • Difficulty submitting documents
  • Conversions to pass/fail grades
  • Unavailability of activities

Will there be a delay in admission decisions?

There will not be a delay in releasing admission decisions. Applications for the Spring 2021 semester will be reviewed on a rolling basis. You should hear from us within 2-4 weeks of when your application becomes complete.

Will Simmons University be test optional for 2021-22?

The COVID-19 public health crisis has led to the cancellation of SAT, ACT, and TEAS tests in many parts of the United States. In response to these extraordinary circumstances, Simmons University will not require students applying for the 2021-22 academic year to submit standardized test scores. This will be the case for both the early and regular application deadlines for first-year students.

How can I submit application materials?

We encourage you to submit materials electronically to [email protected] whenever possible. Our ability to receive mail may be slightly delayed.

I mailed application materials recently, have you received them?

Currently we are receiving and processing mail once a week. The application status portal will typically be updated on Mondays. If you mailed documents more than two weeks ago and they are not yet marked as "Received", we recommend emailing them to [email protected].

My school is closed; can you accept unofficial transcripts and test scores?

Simmons accepts transcripts and test scores emailed from your school as official. If your school is unable to email these documents, you can submit unofficial transcripts and test scores yourself to [email protected]. Official copies of these documents must be received before you can start classes.

My school changed its format and grading system. How will that affect my application?

We understand that changes to your school format may have limited your access to certain courses, and your grading system may also be different. We will evaluate your record in the context of your school, taking into account any changes or limitations as we review your entire academic background.

What if my extracurricular activities have been canceled?

Applicants will not be penalized for changes to their activity schedule this year, whether that is due to lack of availability, increased responsibilities at home, or simply needing to do what is best for you in the situation.

What should I do if I need more time to make my college decision?

Please email your admission counselor to discuss your circumstances and we are happy to work with you to discuss options.

I will be attending Simmons! How can I submit my final transcript?

We anticipate mail taking longer at this time and therefore encourage you to ask your current school to email it to [email protected].

My family's financial situation has changed as a result of COVID-19. Can Simmons re-review my financial aid package?

Yes, please submit the need based financial aid appeal form and our Student Financial Services team will be in touch soon. If you have questions about the appeal process or your financial aid package, please email them at [email protected]
