The Center will collaborate with a number of departments and programs across the College drawing on the multidisciplinary expertise of the faculty. Research and education in the sciences underlying hygiene will be necessary in fulfilling the Center's mission calling for significant contributions from the College of Arts and Sciences and Professional Studies' Biology Department. Because hygiene has such major effects on individuals'lifetime health and fitness the Simmons School for Health Studies will have significant collaborative roles in the education and research aims of the Center.

The Center seeks to become as self-sufficient as possible within a short time. Sources of funds include seed money from the Procter and Gamble company and from Reckitt Benckiser. Additional funding will be sought from foundations, government agencies, and private industry.
