Laura Quilter earned a master's in library and information science from the University of Kentucky in 1993 and a juris doctorate from the University of California Berkeley School of Law in 2003. Prior to earning a law degree, she worked with technology, law and scientific information as a librarian at the Exploratorium, the University of Illinois at Chicago and the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection. Since earning her law degree, Quilter has taught, practiced law and researched with the Samuelson Law, Technology and Public Policy Clinic; the NYU Brennan Center for Justice; and other non-profit and educational organizations. Quilter's research and professional interests are working on matters relating to information access and technology policy. She is particularly concerned with copyright and scholarly communication, privacy and human rights, and minority representation in communication and media. Quilter has taught LIS 493 - Intellectual Freedom at GSLIS since 2008.
