CEC Services

The CEC provides the following services for undergraduates:

Individual Career Coaching

The CEC's career development professionals have expertise in providing personalized career coaching. One-on-one meetings with the Career Education staff provides personal advice to help you address your career concerns, from discovering your strengths and interests to exploring career options, developing your resume, preparing to interview or negotiate, and much more. To set up an appointment with a CEC career coach see Make an Appointment.

Career Workshops and Programs

Workshops and career programs can provide valuable career information and help build job search skills. A broad range of topics can be addressed, from resumes and cover letters, to choosing a major, to creating a job search strategy, and much more. Many of these programs are delivered in the classroom, while others are delivered at the CEC or elsewhere on campus. Take advantage of these valuable opportunities to learn more and help boost your own career development. See the CEC Events calendar for upcoming programs. Faculty interested in requesting a workshop should visit the In-Class Workshops page.

Career Fairs and Employer Recruiting Events

Throughout the year a variety of employers are invited on campus to recruit Simmons students for volunteer, internship, and full-time positions. Employers have an opportunity to present their organizations and discuss job openings at Information Sessions. You may also see employers at Information Tables in the Fens or MCB Lobby, providing information about their organizations and job openings. The CEC also produces or co-produces a number of career fairs throughout the academic year, some of which are targeted, such as those for graduate school students, and others of which are broader in scope, such as the annual Spring Career & Internship Fair, primarily for undergraduates. See information on last year's Spring Career Fair here. See the CEC Events Calendar for a listing of upcoming employer visits and on- and off-campus career fairs and related employer events.

Handshake Job & Internship Listings

The CEC maintains the Handshake job board with local and national listings posted for Simmons students and alums. Handshake lists internships, full-time and part-time jobs, fellowships, and even some volunteer opportunities that are career-related. This is the place for undergrads to look for internships and for those about to graduate and alums to look for full-time jobs.

Career Resources at Beatley Library

The CEC collaborates with Beatley Library to develop and maintain a broad and deep set of resources on career topics. There is both a dedicated space for the print "Career Resources" collection, located near the main circulation desk in Beatley, and a rich array of online resources, accessible through the main Career Resources page on the Beatley website.

CEC Social Media

You can also keep up with the CEC by following us in a variety of social media sites, including our own FacebookTwitter, and Instagram pages. Watch for regular updates on those pages throughout the year — and let us know what you think! We are also active participants in the Simmons Alumnae/i LinkedIn group, which any member of the Simmons community can join.

In addition to the foregoing, the CEC offers the following specifically for undergraduates:

STEPS Career Development Plan

The STEPS Career Development Plan provides an action plan for you to follow during your undergraduate years to help you acquire knowledge of self, career paths, and academic and career opportunities. Career decision-making is a process, and while activities are suggested over a four-year timeline, you can set your own pace in pursuing career development and use the timeline accordingly. If you get started in your first year, work with a career coach, and take advantage of the Career Education Center's programs and resources, you will be better prepared to make informed and meaningful career decisions, both at graduation and throughout your career. Learn more about the STEPS Plan here.
