Applying to be an Orientation Leader

Orientation Leaders play a vital roles in a student's adjustment to college, serving as ambassadors, mentors, and friends.  Please read the following for important information regarding the application process. Application deadline is February 26, 2014.

Application Instructions

You must complete all parts of this application in order to be considered for these positions.  Completed applications include the following:
  1. Completing all of the demographic questions.
  2. Answer all essay questions as indicated.
  3. Submitting a completed copy of your most recent resume. (If you need assistance with creating a resume, please contact the Career Education Center. The Career Education Center is located on the 1st floor of the Management/Academic building. The phone number to the office is 617.521.2488.)

Interviews

Students applying for the Orientation Leader position will need to participate in BOTH a group process interview and an individual interview.

Group Process and individual interviews will take place on Sunday, March 2nd between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Group Process interviews will be from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., and individual interviews will be assigned from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Important Dates

Both Orientation Leaders and Simmons 101 facilitators should plan on attending the Student Multicultural Leadership Conference on Wednesday, April 2, 2014.

If selected to be an Orientation Leader, you must be available for both Summer Training and Orientation, and Fall Training and Orientation.

Spring Training

Dates for Spring OL training are still to be announced. If selected as an OL, you should do your best to be available for these spring trainings (exception: classes, labs, athletics games).

Summer Training and Orientation

Orientation Leader Summer Training: Thursday, June 12- Sunday, June 15
Summer Orientation: Monday, June 16- Friday, June 20
Fall Training and Orientation (dates tentative)

Fall Training: Saturday, August 23(OLs)  - Friday, August 30
Fall Orientation: Saturday, September 1 - Wednesday, September 3
OLs are expected to participate in all aspects of Fall Orientation

Applying to be a Simmons 101 Facilitator

Simmons 101 Facilitators play vital roles in a student's adjustment to college, serving as ambassadors, mentors, and friends. Simmons 101 will be focusing on transitioning to college through a lens of diversity and inclusion. Please read the following for important information regarding the application process.

You must complete all parts of this application in order to be considered for these positions. Completed applications include the following:
  1. Completing all of the demographic questions.
  2. Answer all essay questions as indicated.

Interviews

Interviews will take place on Thursday, February 6 and Friday, February 7, and will take approximately an hour. Interviews will consist of working with another candidate to develop a class around a central reading, presenting that class, and then individually interviewing with the selection committee.

Decisions

Students will be notified about whether or not they have been accepted on or before Friday, February 28, 2014.

Important Dates

Spring Training
There will be several training sessions during the Spring semester. Dates will be announced later.
All facilitators should plan on attending the Multicultural Student Leadership Conference on Wednesday, April 2, 2014.

Fall Training and Orientation
Fall Training: Sunday, August 24 - Friday, August 29
Fall Orientation: Saturday, August 30- Wednesday, September 3
If selected to be an Simmons 101 Facilitator, you must be available for both Fall Training and portions of Fall Orientation during which the Simmons 101 classes are together (convocation, FACES, etc.) Simmons 101 Facilitators are also expected to participate in new student move-in on Saturday, August 30, 2014.

Classes
Most Simmons 101 classes will be taught on either Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays from 11:00 - 12:20 p.m. Honors classes will be held at alternate times. However, if you are not an honors student you MUST be available for one of the Monday, Wednesday, or Friday times.

Ongoing Training
In addition to Fall Training, we will be having mandatory ongoing training sessions throughout the fall semester. If selected for this position, you will be expected to attend.

Applying to be an Academic Year RA

Please note that the academic year RA application will not be available on this website. That application will only be available by attending an info sessions.

Applications for RA positions will be handed out at the info sessions. You cannot apply to be an RA without attending a session

These info sessions are for the Academic Year RA position. Those interested only in the Summer RA position do not need to attend.
