Caps & Gowns

All of your academic regalia for Commencement, such as caps and gowns, is available from the Simmons College bookstore.

Regalia for Graduates and Faculty
  • Regalia for all degrees can be ordered online through April 25th from:
  • Bachelor's and Master's Regalia will also be available for purchase in the bookstore starting April 1st.
  • To celebrate your accomplishment, come stop by for our Grad Fair in April for discounts, a raffle, snacks, and more.

Bachelor's Degree
  • You will purchase a cap, gown, and tassel that are yours to keep after the ceremony
Master's Degree
  • You will purchase a cap, gown, hood, and tassel that are yours to keep after the ceremony
Ed.S. Degree
  • You will RENT a doctoral gown and PURCHASE a cap, tassel, and hood that are yours to keep
  • Rental gowns must be returned by mail to Oak Hall by June 1st
Doctoral Degree
  • Doctoral regalia is available to purchase or to rent
  • Rented regalia must be returned by mail to Oak Hall by June 1st
  • Purchased regalia is custom made and must be ordered no later than April 15th
Class Rings, Announcements, and Diploma Frames
  • Please visit the Balfour website to place an order for class rings or graduation announcement packages. They can also be reached at 1-877-BALFOUR with any questions.
  • Don’t miss our Grad Fair! A representative from Balfour will be available 11am to 3pm to take orders, help with ring sizing, and to answer any questions that you may have.
  • The bookstore offers a variety of frames designed to fit your Simmons diploma. Celebrate your achievement and find the frame that suits your success. Shop our collection here.
What is the regalia made of?

The Simmons Bookstore is proud to offer Oak Hall’s line of eco-friendly caps and gowns made from 100 percent recycled plastic bottles. The regalia is made of fabric spun from molten plastic pellets, taking an average of 23 bottles to make each gown.

How does sizing work?

Gowns vary by height and caps are one size fits all. However, plus sizes and X-Large caps are available upon request.

What tassel do I need?

A black tassel is to be worn at the ceremony, with souvenir tassels in school colors or class colors available in-store and online.

How do I know what hood that I need?

Hoods are worn by Master’s and Doctoral graduates and the colors are determined by your degree.

Morning Ceremony (Undergraduate)
  • 7:00 A.M. Shuttle service begins leaving Simmons*
  • 8:00 A.M. Students report time

  • 8:30 A.M. Students must be in lines
  • 9:00 A.M. Ceremony begins

Ceremony lasts approx. 2 hours

Afternoon Ceremony (Graduate)
  • 11:45 A.M. Shuttle service begins leaving Simmons*
  • 1:00 P.M. Students report time
  • 1:00 P.M. Gates open for guests
  • 1:45 P.M. Students must be in lines
  • 2:15 P.M. Ceremony begins

Ceremony lasts approx. 2.5 hours

*Shuttles are only for graduating students and staff

Shuttle Service

Degree candidates may utilize the complimentary shuttle from the Residence Campus to the Pavilion.

Morning Shuttle Schedule
7:00 A.M. Avenue Louis Pasteur and Simmons Residence Campus at Bartol Hall Parking Lot
(Buses leave for the Pavilion at 7:00 A.M.

Candidates must report to the Pavilion by 8:00 A.M.

Buses will run as needed from these two locations
11:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. Buses will leave the Pavilion and return to Simmons
Afternoon Shuttle Schedule
11:00 A.M. Buses leave from Avenue Louis Pasteur only. Buses will run as needed.

Candidates must report to the Pavilion by 1:00 P.M.
4:30P.M. - 5:00P.M. Buses will leave the Pavilion and return to Simmons
Graduate Ceremony Ticket Pickup Information

Pick up pre-ordered tickets in person – Simmons ID or other picture ID is required.

Blue Hills Bank Pavilion "Will Call" ticket window, located by the front gate. 9am-1pm


If you are not able to attend the ceremony on May 18, you will be able to pick up your diploma with photo identification in the Office of the Registrar (room C116 of the Main College Building) starting on Tuesday, May 22.

Any diploma not picked up by the student will be sent to the student's address in June. Learn more about diplomas and transcripts.

Doctoral Hooding

The doctoral hooding ceremony will take place on the academic quad of the Simmons campus at 2:30 pm on Thursday, May 17.

Doctoral candidates receiving their degrees should report to Common Grounds Cafe in the Main College Building at 2:00 p.m. in academic regalia with their hoods in hand to prepare for the ceremony.
