Program Requirements

The dual degree in teaching and English is a 60-64 credit program consisting of 7 courses in English and 7 courses in teaching, excluding the Pre-practicum/practicum.

Our dual degree students take a reduced course-load of 28 credits (instead of 32) for the English component of the dual degree. The 7 English courses include Proseminar (ENGL 404), Contemporary Critical Theory (ENGL 405) and 5 English electives.

The teaching component of the dual degree includes 7 courses and a 4 credit practicum or an 8 credit internship. Completion of the dual degree, along with passing scores on the appropriate Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTELs), allows students to receive initial teaching licensure in the state of Massachusetts at the elementary school level (grades 1-6).

Full-time students can complete the program in approximately 2 years. Part-time students must complete the program within 6 years of enrollment.
