About Me

Susan E.D. Doughty, RN, MSN, WHNP-BC, Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, currently serves as Adjunct Clinical Faculty in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program for Simmons University. Her work has led her to become a national expert on perimenopause, speaking and publishing in that area, and was an item writer for the first certifying examination for Menopause She started New England WomenCenter, an Interdisciplinary Center for midlife women in Portland, Maine in 1997 that provided a model for many subsequent Interdisciplinary Centers in Maine. She merged her practice with Coastal Women's Health Care in 2014. She was instrumental in Maine Nurse Practitioners achieving Full Practice Authority in 1996, and Third-Party Reimbursement in 1998.

Susan is a graduate of Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania and the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. Her graduate nursing degrees are from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and Boston College. Board-certified as a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, she has been awarded Outstanding Nurse Practitioner for Maine from the Maine Nurse Practitioner Association, 2013, and for Maine from the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2014, and was named Health Care Hero in Nursing in Portland in 2012.

Community Engagement

Coordinate health care provider faculty as part of a weekly English conversation class for teaching Portland area sub-Saharan immigrant women about their bodies and chronic illness prevention to facilitate communication with their health care providers.
