Meet Dean Berzin
Dr. Stephanie Berzin is the Dean of The College of Social Sciences, Policy, and Practice. In this role, she leads the College as an integrated, collaborative community where a deep concern for the study of society and social relationships is blended with training and research that advances practice and policy.
Dean Berzin’s vision for The College of Social Sciences, Policy, and Practice is one in which the College inspires and empowers students to work toward equity and justice, creating synergies between the social sciences and professional fields and advancing research that responds to society’s most entrenched social problems.
Known for her expertise with social sector leaders to develop innovation skills for local and global use, Dean Berzin co-led the curriculum redesign and development of a strategic vision around social innovation, social entrepreneurship, leadership, and resource development as Assistant Dean and Director of the Doctoral Program at the Boston College School of Social Work. She also served as co-director of the BC Center for Social Innovation. In addition, she is a leader in technology and social good, co-leading the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare Grand Challenge Harness Technology for Social Good.
Her most recent book was published by Oxford University Press, Innovation From Within: Redefining How Nonprofits Solve Problems (2018). Dr. Berzin graduated cum laude from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, earned her MSW from Columbia University, and a PhD from the School of Social Welfare at the University of California, Berkeley.
