2008 Chinese Poetry Festival
Hello Everyone:
If you are interested in the world of contemporary Chinese poetry, I invite you to attend the Simmons International Chinese Poetry Festival at Simmons College in Boston on October 4-5, 2008, just a season away. This is the sequel to the conference held at Simmons four years ago, then the largest such gathering of its kind ever held outside China or Taiwan.
This year’s festival will be two days of celebration and dialogue, particularly around issues of translation and what it means to teach poetry as Creative Writing in academic institutions and elsewhere.
In the words of Rainer Schulte, translator and editor of Translation Review, “The globalized world forces us to find entrance into that which is foreign in the minds of people in other countries to avoid an escalation of the clashes of cultures.”
Poetry is the beatific string that reminds us that we are all human. Come celebrate the works of these wonderful poets from China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, and see the affirming presence of poetry.
