March 2014 Archives

Each March, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics sponsors National Nutrition Month.  More and more adult students are choosing to study Nutrition at Simmons, so now is a great time to explore your options within the field!  Here are some resources to help you learn more:
Do you want to work in the Nutrition field, but not as a Dietitian? Stay tuned to Sightings for more information about the launch of our Nutrition and Wellness track.  This exciting new program will prepare you to work in settings such as community organizations, health clubs, or government programs.
If you still have questions, just contact your admission counselor.  We also invite you to schedule an individual visit to request a meeting with a Nutrition faculty member or to sit in on a Nutrition class!

Our adult students come to Simmons from a variety of backgrounds. Throughout the year, your Simmons admission counselors criss-cross the country to visit prospective students at their colleges and workplaces . Check out our April visit schedule below to see when we'll be in your area.  Then come say hello-- we love to meet our applicants on the road!

Adult students come to us with a variety of backgrounds and levels of experience with technology.   We require all students to fulfill the Information Technology and Literacy Competency, or iComps, by the end of their third semester at Simmons.   We want to ensure that all Simmons alumnae are prepared to utilize technology in their learning at Simmons and in the workplace!  Students fulfilling the iComps requirement have demonstrated competency in information access, ethics, personal computing, Simmons systems, and computer applications.  There are three ways you can fulfill the iComps requirement:
  • Pass the iComps exam administered by the Center for Academic Achievement
  • Successfully complete IT 101 Living in a Digital Society
  • Successfully complete IT 225 Health Informatics
Although we do not accept transfer credit to fulfill the iComps requirement, transfer credits may be used to fulfill the majority of our all-college degree requirements.  Contact your admission counselor if you have any questions about iComps or any other graduation requirements!

The summer 2014 application deadline is April 1st. Don't wait another semester to jump start your education!  Click here to learn how to apply.  Because we're so close to the deadline, here are some tips from our admission counselors on how to get everything done:
  • Start gathering transcripts, recommendations, and test scores first, as those take the longest.
  • Don't rush the essay-- this is your time to show the admission committee who you are!
  • Schedule a phone or Skype interview or information session if you are unable to make it to campus on short notice-- just call us at 617-521-2051 or 800-345-8468 to schedule a time.
  • If you're not sure if a document has been received yet, you can log back into your online application to check!  If you're still not sure, feel free to give us a call.
  • Be in touch with your admission counselor.  We are happy to help you with any questions surrounding the deadline!

Do you have lots of questions about our nursing options for adult students? You're not alone! We recently launched a new Nursing FAQs page, covering topics like admission criteria, prerequisites, deadlines, and more! Visit to learn the answers to some of the most common questions we hear from adult students about our nursing programs. If you still have questions after checking out the FAQs page, contact your admission counselor who will be happy to answer them for you!
