Philosophy of Language

4 sem. hrs. Prereq.: One course in philosophy or consent of the instructor. Not offered in 2012-2014.] Examines the nature of language and its relation to meaning, reference, truth, and power. Provides a survey of philosophical reflections on language from various historical periods and different traditions, including classics in 20th-century analytic philosophy as well as recent multicultural and feminist perspectives.
