Nursing Labs and Simulation Lab

Nursing Labs and Simulation Lab

The Nursing Clinical learning Labs are located in S-337 and S-411. They are designed to simulate a hospital setting. They contain patient bedside cubicles and a large variety of equipment and supplies which allow students to practice a variety of tasks and physical assessment skills. Also available are references, a VCR, and an Interactive Video Disk player with a wide variety of programs.  The labs should be managed in a professional manner.  The bed, patient, and bedside should look neat, clean, respectful and professional.  The intent is to help you establish very good habits that will carry over as you care for your patients in your clinical setting.

The Dotson Simulation and Clinical learning Lab is located in S-410.  It is a state-of-the-art facility with high fidelity mannequins to enhance student learning in a virtual hospital setting. Simulation allows students to learn and practice how to act and react in various patient situations. Having the time to prepare, perform, and review in the simulation lab allows for reflection on learning, and the experience to make appropriate care decisions when caring for real patients. Simulation helps students to transfer knowledge gained to the clinical setting and apply it in caring for their patients. It also allows the learner to practice the application of knowledge in a setting that is safe and non-judgmental.  Communication skills are improved as the team works together to co-ordinate and provide care for the patients. The Dotson Sim Lab is a great learning environment for the students to practice skills and gain expertise to deliver excellent care to the patients and families.
