Two New Honors Courses!

Two brand-new Honors courses will be taught during 2011. Syllabi for these courses will be available in the Honors Suite, C-313 to browse as soon as they are available.
HON 205: Colonial Legacy: South Africa in Film and Literature will trace the story of South Africa from the mid-twentieth century to the present as it is portrayed in artistic media. Films and literary works combined with historical texts together tell the story of South Africa's extraordinary journey from the traumatic experience of apartheid to the majority democratic government of the new South Africa first led by Nelson Mandela.
Professor Pamela Bromberg from the Department of English will teach this course in Spring 2011. This course will fulfill the Honors requirement for a 200-level course as well as the Mode 2 for the Modes of Inquiry.
HON 312: Soul, Funk and Civil Rights is an interdisciplinary course exploring the social, political and cultural face of America in the 1960s and 1970s through the lens of popular culture, race and art. This course will offer the opportunity to examine the cultural misinformation surrounding the time by exploring the intersections of African American history, political movements, racial consciousness and cultural creativity.
Professor Janie Ward from the Department of Africana Studies will teach this course in the Fall of 2011. This course will fulfill the Honors requirement for a 300-level course as well as the Mode 1 for the Modes of Inquiry.

Current Honors students can subscribe for full access and email notifications from the Group by going to the MySimmons Portal at https://groups.simmons.edu/, finding the Honors Program Group, and clicking "join this group."
